What Is True Courage?

What is the meaning of courage? Is it just the strength to do some kind of brave act? By its literal meaning it is the quality of mind which enables one to encounter danger and difficulties without fear and with boldness. I am sure we all agree. But Can Anyone answer what exactly does true courage mean? Does hitting someone whom you are not supposed to hit, signify an act of courage? Or does cheating behind someone's back knowing your odds, show an act of courage? No.

Such things cannot be called acts of courage because they are wrong. Anything wrong,

cannot be associated with courage. One may say, suicide is an act of courage as it is a  very difficult thing to kill oneself, but actually it is an act of coward ness. Taking any life, whether it is yours or someone else's is wrong, its just plain wrong. It just means that you are not brave enough to face life the way it is. On the other hand, true courage is living life when it is difficult, trying to cope up with the difficult situations and obstacles that come in your way, doing the duties that you are supposed to do, that is called true courage. You may console yourselves by telling yourselves again and again, that this is the only way, I m doing a noble thing by killing myself, not everyone has the courage to do so, but at the back of your head, a voice will always stop you, tell you not to do so, that is your conscience. Conscience is the aptitude, facility or judgment of your intellect that distinguishes right from wrong. even while you are trying to cheat someone you love, your conscience always tries to stop you, when you are trying to run away from a difficult situation which you were supposed to handle, your conscience speaks loud at the back
of your head. But the sad part is, even though we know what is right and what is wrong, even though we have our own system for distinguishing the right from the wrong, we have mastered ourselves in ignoring our conscience. And why? Because whatever is wrong is always much easier than whatever is right. And who would not want to take the easy way out? Why take the difficult way unnecessarily when we have an option? But that my friends-(Taking the easy way out) is just what is called cowardice. Some people might say its not cowardice but smartness, but those people are nothing but arrogant, because, even though you take the easy way out now, but in the long run, you will think, things could have been much better had I not done this.

So lets return to our question, what exactly is 'true courage' ? There is no set definition for true courage, but it can be explained by examples. now courage can be of many types, physical courage mental courage, childish bravado etc. but the biggest courage is moral courage, and that can make for the best example of true courage. Moral courage means standing up for something you believe is right, even if it means risking something that is very precious to you. Moral courage has been displayed very nicely in the book '' To Kill A Mockingbird'' It is the tale of two kids who grow up in a society filled with social distinctions, discrimination etc. and they see their father always do the right thing even if it means risking the ones he loved. That my friends is an act of true courage, standing up for your morals, taking the first step in the right direction no matter how difficult it may be. That is what I would call 'true courage'.
